Friday, September 14th. : From the start of the day I was looking forward to the match..
and was thinking whether I would be able to watch the key moments of the match as I was to return from my prayers at around 2200(1700 GMT), whereas the match would start at 2100(1600GMT)...I wanted to watch Asif bowl..but..kher..I watched the match from
half of India's innings..I was quite happy to see that Pakistani team fielded pretty well
...infact exceptionally......alongwith bowling inteligently...and restricted India to a
somewhat easy total to chase....but this was not the case...there was more
drama to be added to the match...when Butt and Nazir came out and started
the innings, it seemed obvious that they both werent comfortable out there.
..Nazir tryin very hard to hit the ball and failing to do so...whereas Butt
trying to settle down and stay at the wicket..neither of them proved to be
good enough to help the cause for the team...they simply just missed the balls.
.helped in increasing the required run rate and shifting the pressure back
to Pakistan...then came out Akmal and YounusK...Akmal infact had a
brilliant start by smashing the ball across the boundary rope and seemed
to be in hurry to score runs...the way he got himself runout suppported
the idea...younus said no as the ball was picked by yovraj singh very
quickly and being a good fielder aimed and hit the stumps...with
akmal down half the pitch...i dont think YK was responsible for the
dismissal..then again the pressure was shifted back onto Pakistan which
had been on India before during Akmal's inning..the Indian bowlers and
fielders did pretty well out in the field but Pakistani batsmen also help
them to get near their goal....after shooaib's and afridi's dismissal the
hope for Pakistan's victory were no longer there.. mostly due to the
huge required run rate...but then what wasnt expected happened.
.Arafat and Misbah displayed brilliant hitting around the ground and bringing Pakistan back on track
....in Last 3 overs Pakistan required 40+ runs...But both Arafat and
Misbah smashed the ball really hard to the fence.. they did so brilliantly
that off the the last to deliveries Pakistan required 1 run to win..but
here comes the inexperince of the batsman(Misbah).. On the second
last delivery Misbah should have tried to just connect the ball with the
bat and get at the other end with the field spread over the ground..but
he tried to smash it and missed the ball...on the last delivery he should
have again tried fo the same thing..just defend the ball with softness and
with open face of the bat and ran...but this time with fielders very close
to the bat ... he tried smash it really hard with a cross bat..ending with not
making contact with the ball from the face of the bat and hittting the ball
towards the fielder at silly mid off who was planted there very inteligently
by Dhoni for exactly the same reason..and ran for the run but git out ending
up the match in a draw.....Misbah being a very very experienced cricketer
at the domestic level should have the enough cricketing sense of what to do in such occassions....well ragarding
the first inning.
...as expected Asif bowled briliantly and destroyed the top order.
..this was the
major damage that India had early on and from which they
couldnot recover till
the end of their innings..Dhoni, being captain played sensibly
and stayed at t
he wicket but I think he took more time than what he
actually should have to
go after the bowlers....well the greatedst drama of the
day came with the
implemtation of the twenty20 rule of "bowled-out"...Pakistani team wasnt aware of the rule untill
the umpires
talked to shoaib ( which he stated in a press
conference)...whereas
according to Dhoni, India knew very well about
the rule and practiced for it in nets earlier as well.
..apart from that Pakistanis
looked quite 'CHILLED' about the thing...the
question that arises is
that Pakistan's current coach Geoff Lawson..
whom I think is supposed
to be a qualified coach shouldnt be knwoing
about the rule??? didnt
he studied the rule book??? didnt ANYBODY
in Pakistan dressing
room looked the rule book before??? Another
thing is that ICC
seems to be very inefficient in communicating
the rule as well.. cuz
one of the commentators, who has been on TV
for quite a long time..
wasnt even clear abt the rule...
.then whoz fault is it????Should we
blame Pkistan team or ICC????
Apart from that India won a cricket
match by 3- 0 for the first time in the history
of international cricket..
thats whats gonna go in the records..the rule
is itslef debatable...
.Dhoni, inspite of winning, stated he doesnt
want any match to
end in this fashion, i.e. through bowled out....
